Let's start off with Urban Dictionary's definition of DARK ROMANCE: A sub-genre of romance that contains controversial themes throughout the plot or characters with questionable morale and background. This can also be described as the' villain love interest' trope manifesting into a genre.

Reader A: I'm looking for a book with a love story between a dangerous hero with questionable intentions and a strong, morally grey heroine.

Reader B: I think you'd enjoy dark romance books. Specifically by Tillie Cole, KC Rice or K. Webster.

Why dark romances? According to The Ink Plots, the sub-genre Dark Romance will push the indie niche and become a dominate force in 2026.
